Every year the team at Sew Magazine organises the annual British Sewing Awards, celebrating all that is great about our fabulous sewing community. We’re always thrilled to be nominated for any of the fabric categories but this year our loyal customers showed their appreciation by voting us the best independent fabric shop in London, and we couldn’t be happier.
What are the British Sewing Awards?
There are a total of 20 categories ranging from Best Regional Fabric Shop to Most Inspirational Sewing Personality. The great thing about these awards is that all the sewing awards are nominated and voted for solely by the public. So, every winner knows it’s their loyal customers who have voted for them which always makes winning extra special.
The Sewing Awards happen in three phases: the nomination process begins in April, when the sewing community nominates its favourites. The nominations are shortlisted and put to a public vote, and finally the winners are announced towards the end of the year. So, it’s a tense time at Fabrics Galore waiting to hear whether we have won anything.
Our Fabric Shop in London
At Fabrics Galore London we work hard to source high quality, affordable fabrics which we hope our customers will love. We are fairly unique in offering fabrics for Dressmaking, Patchwork and Quilting, Crafting and Furnishing and Upholstery all under one roof. This is also the HQ for our online fabric shop where all the orders are cut, packaged and sent out on a daily basis.
The Team at our Fabric Shop
Our team loves what we do, and we try to make the fabric shop in London a fun and inspirational space where the newbie sewer will feel equally at home as an experienced quilter or dressmaker. We are always ready with advice and guidance but will leave you alone to browse if you know what you’re looking for.
Big Boss Paul (he is the 3rd generation of fabric retailer in his family) is always in the shop if he’s not on the road at the shows or visiting new fabric suppliers. Paul and Team FG are all a bit camera-shy, but you can occasionally find us putting in an appearance on our Instagram reels.

We are at 52-54 Lavender Hill, Battersea, London, SW11 5RH which is a 15 minute walk from Clapham Junction Station or you can take any of the these buses: 87, 156 or 345 from Stop D at Clapham Junction Station and get off at Stop B at Tipthorne Rd, then it’s a really short walk to our shop.
