Summer holidays still feel like a long way away, and who knows yet whether we can travel to warmer climes? But that doesn’t mean we can’t dress as if we’re on holiday! Everyone is desperate to put on a spring floral dress and banish the comfy, cosy WFH wear which saw us through winter! Let’s dream of summer and update our holiday wardrobe in our dressmaking plans. You will, of course, be looking to replicate the sun, sea and sand in your outfits, hopefully bringing a little sunshine to your day-to-day life. Printed cotton fabric
Cotton fabric is such a versatile material, especially during the warmer months - and it’s no surprise why you find this fabric used so widely in summer garments. If you are looking to update your summer wardrobe, printed cotton is a must-have. Not only is it relatively inexpensive, but this soft, lightweight and breathable material comes in so many different styles and prints, so the world is your oyster when it comes to designing your summer wardrobe.

Jersey fabric
Once again from the cotton family, jersey fabric is such a versatile fabric that can even be used in the warmer months - perfect for any chillier days or evenings, which we do tend to experience at least once in a while on our summer holidays! Despite being a knit fabric, which you may associate with winter, jersey can be lightweight with a lovely drape and is ideal for designing summer garments such as dresses and skirts, as well as t-shirts, so it is still a great choice of material to inspire your summer holiday wardrobe.
