Autumn is always the most exciting season for dressmakers and one of the fabrics we look forward to sewing at this time of year is corduroy in all its forms. At Fabrics Galore we have increased our range of corduroys to include needlecord, jumbo cord and some lovely printed corduroys, including great children’s fabrics. We even have some animal print corduroys for all the leopard lovers.
So, we thought we would hunt down some great patterns which work brilliantly with corduroy so that you can make the most of this classic fabric this season. Corduroy Dress Patterns
The Tessuti Fabrics Felicia Pinafore Dress
This is a sleeveless pull over your head pinafore dress with a lovely gathered skirt and side pockets. It is a great dress for trans-seasonal dressing as you can wear it with a T shirt underneath in Spring and Autumn then with a jumper underneath in Winter.

Dressmaking Cotton Needlecord - Denim Blue
This pattern for an A line long sleeve mini dress features a large colour button placket and chest pockets which gives the whole dress an edge and we think it would look fantastic worn with chunky biker boots. It has a great top stitching throughout for added interest which you could make extra jazzy with a contrasting matching thread to your corduroy colour.
Corduroy Jacket Patterns
Ready to Sew Julien Chore Jacket
The great thing about the Julien Chore jacket is that you can use so many different fabrics including corduroy, denim or even bouclé. It is fully lined with 3 patch pockets, buttons and a boxy fit so you can fit your chunky sweaters underneath. The sleeves have slits and cuffs so you can roll them up and show off a natty lining. It’s no surprise that it is rated a 5-star pattern.
Make it in one of our furnishing corduroys and line with a cosy flannel for extra warmth.
WISJ Designs Child Coat and Bomber Jacket
This great bomber jacket is crying out to be made up in a super corduroy and the sizing goes up to 14 years and would make a cool teenager’s bomber jacket. With cuffs and an optional hood, this is a highly versatile pattern.
Tilly and The Buttons Sonny Jacket
We probably couldn’t talk about corduroy jackets without mentioning the Tilly Sonny Jacket Pattern. With easy to sew instructions, and multiple versions, we think the utility style with a classic collar and chest pockets suits corduroy best. There are two lengths and a boxy fit with straight sleeves so it’s suitable for a confident beginner.
Make it in this burnt orange jumbo cord and a pale blue lining for maximum style points.
Corduroy Trouser Patterns
These wide leg utility pants are pretty perfect for corduroy and fitted through the waist and hip with a generous fit over the thighs. The waistband is lower at the front making them additionally comfy and the pleated, angled pockets score serious style points.
If you’re dying to jump on this season’s leopard trend, make them in one of our popular leopard print needlecord fabrics.
A cropped trouser with a tapered leg and optional turn ups, this pattern features a simple side zip and back pockets. You can add pleats or darts at the waist or not. Choose a mid to heavyweight corduroy or a finer needlecord for a softer look. Our plain stretch corduroys would make these even more comfortable.
Corduroy Skirt Patterns
The True Bias Blair Skirt just might be our new favourite skirt pattern. Fitted at the waist and hips it has a button front and belt loops. With 3 length options: mini, midi and maxi you could make 3 skirts from a single pattern.

Tilly and the Buttons Ramona Skirt
New to TATB patterns this season, the Ramona skirt is perfect for corduroy and you can make a corduroy mini or knee length pencil skirt from this pattern. With an invisible side zip and a choice of patch pockets or faux pocket flaps, it is versatile and stylish.
Make it in a plain furnishing corduroy for a chunkier wale or floral needlecord for something more delicate depending on your taste and wait for the compliments.
Corduroy Dungarees
No corduroy pattern review would be complete without a pair of corduroy dungarees, and we love this more feminine version of the traditional utility garment. With topstitched pockets, loose legs which can be rolled up and a diamond shaped back, they offer a modern twist on a workwear classic.
